Junior Colloquium: Queer Hollywood
AMST 202 SP

This course will examine Hollywood's treatment of queer subjects. We will use feminist film theory, recent queer theory, and film history to discuss the state of queer Hollywood to the present

MAJOR READINGS

Celluloid Closet; Hollywood Babylon; Outlooks, various critical and theoretical essays. Films: include Children's Hour, Suddenly Last Summer, Midnight Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Philadelphia, Boys Don't Cry; The Brandon Teena Story; Monster, and others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Six short papers and a final 8-10 page paper.

Film viewings are mandatory.
