Irish Theater and Politics
THEA 303 SP

The history of Irish theater will examine the politics and performing practices in Ireland, including the influence of ancient and medieval Irish history on the drama, and the effects of Irish immigration on American theater and politics in the 19th and 20th centuries. The course will include staged readings of a play or play scenes written by Irish playwrights.

MAJOR READINGS

Samples of readings will be selected from several playwrights, including:

Eugene O'Neill

Relevant articles and fiction will supplement the play readings.
