Directing I
THEA 281 SP

A basic and rather general practical introduction to the work of the director. Topics to be considered will include the director's analysis of the text, research, work with actors, movement, rehearsal procedures, directorial style. Students work on exercises that are presented by members of THEA183.

Exercises and scenes to be presented in class. Intensive reading and writing. Final project.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This class is a requirement for students who wish to direct for credit or with Theater Department sponsorship. Preference will be given to theater majors. Requirement: script analysis and one course in acting. Admission to studio, performance, project and tutorial courses in theater is at the discretion of individual instructors, who take into account estimated talent, experience and the need to form balanced and effective working ensembles.
