Private Music Lessons for Declared Music Majors
MUSC 406 SP

This course may be repeated for credit.

This course is open only to declared junior and senior music majors. Each instructor sets his or her criteria for accepting students. Private instrumental and vocal lessons meet for one hour, on a weekly basis, at a regularly scheduled time. Students contract to take 12 lessons. Only returning students who have previously taken Private Lessons may preregister for this course with the permission of the instructor and an enrollment request. All students new to the Private Lessons Program must audition Wednesday, January 19, 2005 through Friday, January 21, 2005 and register during the drop-add period. (Audition information will be posted in the Music Department Lobby in January. Private Lessons will begin the week of January 24, 2005.

Private Lessons begin Monday, January 24, 2005. To schedule the lesson time, all students must submit the Lesson Schedule Form, obtained in the Music Office, to their teacher by Friday, January 21, 2005. If the course is not dropped by the end of the drop-add period, students will be charged the full course fee.

Examinations and Assignments:
Requirements set by each individual instructor. This course requires 12 one-hour lessons per semester.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Music majors are allowed to take one (1) private lessons course during each semester of their junior and senior years for which part of the fee will be paid by the University, under the following guidelines: (1) Students will be responsible for a portion of the lessons fee. (The current private lesson fee is $735.00 per semester.) The amount will be determined each semester by the number of majors taking lessons. Students must have been approved as a major during the preceding semester. (2) Students must be studying with a Private Lessons Teacher for full academic credit.

Private lessons is a permission-of-instructor course; however, only returning students may preregister. All new students must audition and register during the drop-add period. Students must pay lesson fees in addition to University tuition. This course may be repeated for credit. This course is only open to Junior and Senior Music Majors.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
