Topics in Topology II - Infinitary Combinatorics: Topological Consequences
MATH 525 FA

This course may be repeated for credit.

The principles will involve: Erdos-Rado "arrow relations" (partition calculus); Ramsey theory; (maximal) almost disjoint families; stationary sets; chains and antichains in certain posets. Their consequences involve: calibers and Souslin number; product spaces; resolvability; Stone-Cech remainders; retracts; topological groups.

MAJOR READINGS

Several books will be recommended (and placed on reserve).

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Frequent homework and unsolved problems.

Successful completion of Wesleyan's first year graduate courses in Algebra, Analysis, and Topology; ot the equivalent; or permission of instructor.
