Topics in Topology II - Infinitary Combinatorics: Topological Consequences
MATH 525 FA
This course may be repeated for credit.
The principles will involve: Erdos-Rado "arrow relations" (partition calculus); Ramsey theory; (maximal) almost disjoint families; stationary sets; chains and antichains in certain posets. Their consequences involve:
calibers
and Souslin number; product spaces; resolvability; Stone-Cech remainders; retracts; topological groups.
MAJOR READINGS
Several books will be recommended (and placed on reserve).
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Frequent homework and unsolved problems.
