Elementary Statistics
MATH 132 FA

Topics included in this course are organizing data, central measures, measures of variation, distributions, sampling, estimation, conditional probability (Bayes' theorem), hypothesis testing, simple regression and correlation, and analysis of variation.

MAJOR READINGS

MODERN ELEMENTARY STATISTICS, 11th edition, John E. Freund.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two or three hour exams; a 3-hour final examination. Frequent homework and laboratory assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Prerequisites: None except an adequately strong background in high school mathematics. Students who need extra preparation are encouraged to take MATH107 prior to MATH132.

Economics majors are required to take Econ 300 which has substantial overlap in course content. Prospective economics majors should therefore not take this course.
