Cuban Transformations: From Slavery to the Special Peroid
LAST 332 SP
The goal of this course is to explore historical, cultural, social, and political influences that have shaped Cuban society. Moving chronologically from the colonial period to the end of the twentieth century, the
readings
highlight Cuba's transformation into a slave regime, independence movements, Afro-Cuban struggles in the twentieth century, and the challenges of revolutionary society. Particular emphasis will be placed on race
relations
and national identity.
