This course introduces selected readings from a range of texts. Oral exercises, discussion and essays in Japanese.

MAJOR READINGS

Akira Miura and Naomi M. McGloin, AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO INTERMEDIATE JAPANESE (Tokyo: The Japan Times, 1994).

Students should have Nelson's JAPANESE-ENGLISH CHARACTER DICTIONARY, a basic Japanese-Japanese dictionary, and a good Japanese-English dictionary.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Frequent written assignments in Japanese, quizzes on vocabulary and Kanji, midterm and final examinations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students who have not taken JAPN217 will be required to take a placement test.
