Hebrew Literature
HEBR 211 FA

This seminar will survey contemporary Hebrew poetry and prose with emphasis on aspects of socio-historical issues and the ways in which modern Hebrew literature enriches and brings deeper understanding of collective Jewish experiences and detects and shapes the reality of modern Israel. This course will seek to increase the fluency and complexity of the students' expression and comprehension and generate a greater appreciation of the uniqueness of the language. Literary scholars' visits will be incorporated into the curriculum.

Ora Mayrose, A TASTE OF HEBREW LITERATURE and various handouts.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two short papers, two tests, and weekly written assignments. Regular participation in class discussions is required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

HEBR202 is a prerequisite. If students have not taken HEBR202 they may take HEBR211 with the permission of the instructor.
