An introduction to the development of citizenship in the American political system and to mechanisms of democratic accountability. A central concern is the relationships of citizens to political leaders, in particular on the modes by which citizens attempt to hold political leaders responsible for their actions. These modes include nominations and elections, campaigns and political finance, and political parties, interest groups, and social movements. The course is especially designed for sophomores and juniors.
