Citizens and the American State
GOVT 201 SP

An introduction to the development of citizenship in the American political system and to mechanisms of democratic accountability. A central concern is the relationships of citizens to political leaders, in particular on the modes by which citizens attempt to hold political leaders responsible for their actions. These modes include nominations and elections, campaigns and political finance, and political parties, interest groups, and social movements. The course is especially designed for sophomores and juniors.

Two essays and two exams.

"Students who wish to be eligible to register for the course during Drop/Add should add themselves to the enrollment request system during on-line registration. Enrollment request preference rankings will be one factor I will consider in making Drop/Add period registration decisions."
