Knights, Fools and Lovers: An Introduction to Medieval and Renaissance French Culture
FREN 230 SP

This course will help students acquire a basic awareness of the history of French culture from the 12th through the 16th centuries and develop their ability to imagine other -- past and fictional -- worlds through a study of medieval chivalry, the Renaissance carnival, and medieval and Renaissance poetry.

While any student who has completed FREN215 (with a minimum grade of B) or has placed out of FREN215 through the placement test may sign up for this course, it is an introductory course intended for students who have just completed 215 or not taken more than one course in French beyond 215 and not yet studied abroad in a French-speaking country.
