Academic Year 2004/2005
Questions of Queer Travel
ENGL 360 SP
What makes travel queer? We will approach this and related questions by reading a group of writers loosely affiliated through their alienation from the United States and their travels in Latin America, Morocco, and
France
in the middle years of the twentieth century. This is a queer group in many ways, distinguished not only by the sexual dimensions of their travels and writing, but also by their complex understandings of national
belonging,
race, eroticism, and violence.
