Academic Year 2004/2005
Intermediate Fiction Workshop
ENGL 167 SP
This is a short-story workshop for students who already have a basic understanding of how to write narrative fiction, either by having taken an intro course (e.g., ENGL206/160, Techniques of Fiction) or by other means.
MAJOR READINGS
Students must provide copies of their own stories to their classmates at least a week in advance of the discussion of them. There will be a steady diet of published short stories by a variety of authors as well.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Three to five short stories, amounting to somewhere between forty and fifty pages (10,000 and 12,500 words), including one substantial revision; portfolio of all written work at the end of the semester.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
No later than Thursday, January 13, 2005, email the instructor a five-page sample of your fiction as well as your name, year, major, and a brief summary of previous writing experience: this will be your application to
the course. You may not take this
