ENGL 163 SP
The writing exercises in this course give students an introduction to writing literary or so-called creative nonfiction. Talks with visiting writers in a wider range of genres-fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or drama-offer
students a broader sense of writers' techniques and an introduction to interesting contemporary work. Students will attend lectures and readings by the visiting writers, meet in classes and workshop sessions, and work on
short writing assignments.
MAJOR READINGS
A range of contemporary nonfiction as well as works by writers visiting the course.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Exercises in nonfiction writing.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Writers speak on Wednesday evenings at 8:00PM.
Attendance at every talk and class meeting is required.
The course is open to students in all classes and majors. A note to prospective thesis writers in English:
although the course is numbered in
the 160's, students may not use their grade in this course in their application to write a creative thesis.
