The Economics of Developing Countries
ECON 366 SP

This course presents an examination of the structural characteristics of Third World economies and an evaluation of the principal development models. Specific topics include population growth, agricultural development, industrialization strategies, the microenterprise sector, structural adjustment, the anatomy of foreign aid, and project analysis.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Bi-weekly empirical exercises. Two quizzes and a final. Classroom participation constitutes one-fifth of the final grade.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students who have completed ECON245 may not receive credit for ECON366.

Graduates of Economics 219, 244, 252, 254 or 255 will be particularly well prepared to take this course. Reading assignments to be completed prior to discussion in class.
