American Economic History
ECON 353 FA

This course focuses on 19th- and 20th-century United States economic history. The course emphasizes the application of economic tools to the analysis of United States history. In addition, the course aims to provide students with a sense of the historical dynamics that have shaped the contemporary economic system. Rather than providing a general survey of the economic history of the entire period, the course will focus on topics including cyclical fluctuations, the evolution of the monetary and financial systems, immigration, labor markets and the role of government policy. Students will be responsible for leading (and participating in) class discussions.
