This course features an in-depth discussion of contemporary environmental issues. Scientific, policy, economic and cultural perspectives will be brought together so that we can better appreciate the full scope of each issue. We will ask whether these problems have historical antecedents, whether solutions have been proposed and what the consequences were. The environmental topics will range from local issues to those which are international. Potential solutions will be discussed with an emphasis on sustainability. Topics will vary by year but will include climate changes, pollution, population, human health, and biodiversity among others.
