Jr. Colloquium: The Vietnam Saga

A seminar in the study of politics and popular culture focusing on American understandings of the Vietnam war.

MAJOR READINGS

Theoretical and methodological readings on the study of popular culture along with major literary, historiographical, and filmic texts about the Vietnam War. Among others: Herr, DISPATCHES; Sheehan, BRIGHT, SHINING LIE; Stone, DOG SOLDIERS, Coppola, APOCALYPSE NOW; Stone, PLATOON

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several short essays and a 15-20 pp. research paper.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course fulfills the American Studies junior colloquium requirement.
