Introduction to African American Literature
AFAM 202 FA
Introduction to African American Literature will trace the development of an African American literary tradition, beginning in the 18th century. We will study three major genres of black writers: autobiography, poetry
and
fiction. Beginning with slave narratives, we will examine the meanings of slavery and freedom, of identity and dreams, as they manifest themselves literarily.
