Theatre of Anton Chekhov: Research, Analysis, Performance

The course will focus on the detailed exploration of the theatrical world of Anton Chekhov. Students will read, research, analyze, and perform all Chekhov's plays including dramas, comedies, and vaudevilles. The course
will examine in detail the historical and cultural context of Chekhov's writing, as well as issues of translation and adaptation of his plays for the modern theatre.

A. Chekhov: PLATONOV, IVANOV, THE BEAR, THE PROPOSAL, A JUBILEE, THE SEAGULL, UNCLE VANYA, THE THREE SISTERS, THE CHERRY ORCHARD, THE SWAN SONG
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Research leading into small performances, to be prepared outside the class and presented in the class; written assignments; final presentation that will combine research, analysis, and performance work.
