This course will explore the relationship between literary production and politics in Argentina since Juan Manuel de Rosas' government in the 19th century until the last military dictatorship (1976-1983), which ends with the MALVINAS War. In particular, through the analysis of the texts of the Romantic Generation and "gauchesca" poetry, as well as 20th century non-fiction books, short stories, novels and movies, this course will examine the tension between art and political struggle, in the context of the on-going debate regarding the definitions and uses of literature.
