The 19th-Century Russian Novel
RUSS 205 FA
The 19th-century novel is widely regarded as the supreme achievement of Russian literature. This course will trace the development of the Russian novel, the historical and sociological situation in which the novels were
produced, and the tools developed by Russian critical theory (particularly the Russian Formalists, Bakhtin and Lotman) for understanding the monuments of 19th-century Russian prose.
