Psychology of the Self
PSYC 340 FA
This course will examine current issues on the self from both personality and social psychological perspectives. We will discuss how particular conceptions of the self affect cognition and motivation. Examples of
topics
to be covered are development of the self, culture and the self, self-evaluation maintenance, self-presentation, self-discrepancy, and self-verification.
MAJOR READINGS
There is no assigned textbook for this course. Instead, we will be reading mainly book chapters and contemporary journal articles.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Evaluation will be based on participation in class discussions, class presentations, short thought papers, and a major term paper.
