This course will cover selected topics in psycholinguistics. Following introduction of a set of descriptive tools for talking about language structure, we will examine the psychological processes involved in perceiving spoken language and in producing grammatical utterances. We will then discuss language as part of speakers' personal identity, including gender issues and multilingualism; first and second language learning; and animal communication in the wild and in the laboratory.
