The Psychology of Women
PSYC 270 FA

Crosslistings:
WMST 229

This course explores the construction of gender within contemporary psychology. Historical and contemporary theories of women's psychology will be reviewed. The experience of gender and its implications for the individual development of girls and women will be studied. Students will explore how gender mediates one's relationship to the body, desire, and identity and how, in turn, these relationships may challenge assumptions about gender. The intersection of gender with race, ethnicity, culture, class, and sexuality will be discussed in terms of psychological experiences and used to raise questions about gender as a unified construct.
