This seminar will be an intensive study of the science of human nature offered in David Hume's TREATISE ON HUMAN NATURE. We will analyze the implications for philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, moral psychology and political philosophy. Most importantly, we will investigate Hume's attempt to articulate a bold vision of how a thoughtful, feeling person can live one's life in a modern society. Class participation will be encouraged.
