Contemporary Ethical Issues
PHIL 213 SP

Philosophical analysis and arguments concerning world hunger, genetic engineering, cloning, surrogate motherhood, euthanasia, abortion, war and terrorism, affirmative action, the moral status of animals, and other ethical issues. (This is an introduction to philosophy and ethics for first-year students).

MAJOR READINGS

Contemporary readings on issues in practical ethics.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Short papers and a longer final paper. Occasional reading quizzes. Brief class presentation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students must come to class having studied (not just read) the material and must be prepared to discuss it.
