Ebony Singers: Gospel Music

This course may be repeated for credit.
The Ebony Singers will be a study of black religious music through the media of performance. The areas of study will consist of traditional gospel, contemporary gospel, spirituals and hymns in the black tradition. The
members of the group will be chosen through a rigorous audition (with certain voice qualities and characteristics.)
MAJOR READINGS
The scores of the music performed are to be studied and memorized.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Singing test; listening skills are often assessed.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students are required to perform in all performances. Students must audition and be accepted as a part of the ensemble. Auditions will take place at the first class from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m., 003 Rehearsal Hall.
Participants must have a quality voice, a
melodic vocal sound and the ability to read music. Interested students should attend the audition at the first class. Only continuing students may preregister.
