Topics in Topology II: Compactness and Algebraic Structures

This course may be repeated for credit.

COMPACTNESS AND VARIANTS. Stone-Cech compactification as: Subspace of a cube; ultrafilter space; maximal ideal space of the ring or l-group C(X,R). Boolean algebras: Stone representation; completion. Extremally and basically disconnected spaces. Rings and l-groups of extended real-valued functions (e.g., measurable mod null).
