Reconstructing Black Women: Autobiography and Biography
HIST 393 SP
This seminar will concentrate on the ways in which African American women have "constructed" themselves in published memoirs, and the way in which critics and biographers have reconstructed the lives of black women. The
creative and complex use of personal documents to create a political identity for African American women in the past will be examined in depth.
