American Intellectual History: 1492-1865
HIST 235 FA
This course offers an introduction to the cultural and intellectual traditions that helped shape America between 1492 and the Civil War. The course will introduce students to a range of primary sources, including
objects,
paintings, and photographs. Among the topics to be considered: Indian-white relations, family life, gun culture, the domestication of the wilderness, religious revivals, slavery, the rise of the city, and the Civil War.
There will be at least two film screenings.
