Classic Christian Texts
HIST 206 SP

This course is designed to provide students, most of whom will have no background in this subject, with a solid grounding in some of the most influential texts of the Christian tradition, both Catholic and Protestant. This training is intended to make the students better readers in Western Humanities and Social Sciences.

MAJOR READINGS

Readings will include the following:
THE BIBLE, KING JAMES VERSION; APOCRYPHA

Origen, Augustine, Bede, Benedict, Bernard of Clairvaux, Bonaventura, Thomas Aquinas, Johannes Eckhart, Thomas a Kempis, Julian of Norwich, Erasmus, Martin Luther, Ignatius of Loyola, John Calvin, John Foxe, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Jacobus Arminius, John Donne, John Milton, Blaise Pascal, John Bunyan, Jeanne Marie Guyon, Fenelon, Samuel Rutherford, Jonathan Edwa rds, John Wesley, Soren Kierkegaard, George MacDonald, James Hudson Taylor and Dietrich Bonhoeffer

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Reading notes; 3 papers; midterm and final examinations.
