Medieval Europe
HIST 201 FA
This introductory lecture course is the first of three that cover the history of Europe from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period (see HIST202 and HIST203). This course is a history of European politics, culture,
and institutions from roughly 1000 through 1500. Topics include: kings and knights; feudalism and chivalry; saints and popular religion; heresy and persecution; Jewish culture; Vikings; art and architecture; paganism and
witchcraft; empire; Arab civilization; love, sex and marriage; the effects of the Black Death; and the development of mysticism and heresy.
