Academic Year 2003/2004

Elementary German
GERM 101 FA

Required Sequence: GERM101 & GERM102

This is the first part of a two-semester course designed to develop the basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students may expect to acquire: the ability to speak and understand simple German; mastery of the main features of German grammar; the capacity to read non-technical texts; and insight into the culture of the German-speaking countries. The course meets five times a week, with the longer Tuesday-Thursday classes providing extra time for conversation, exploration of cultural topics, and use of video and audio materials. Individual work in the language laboratory is required. Students should plan to spend between one and half to two hours preparing for each class.
