History of the British Novel, Part I

The 18th century developed a literary form so startingly new it came to be called "the novel." To understand the genre's newness, we will look closely at some of the earliest examples of English prose fiction,
addressing
not only formal and stylistic concerns, but also 18th-century history and society.
