Contemporary U.S. Poetry
ENGL 224 FA
This course focuses on the study of postmodern American poetry. Over the course of the semester, the work of eight contemporary poets will be discussed in the context of their relation to literary tradition, innovation,
and American culture. At least two of these writers will visit campus to read and discuss their work.
MAJOR READINGS
Readings will include eight recent books by innovative poets, along with selections from their prose.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Assignments include a midterm essay of 5-7 pages, a final essay of 8-10 pages, several 1-page responses and an oral presentation.
