Distinguished Writers on Writing
ENGL 163 SP

The course offers an introduction to contemporary writing in several genres, including fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction, as well as a brief discussion of publishing. A number of writers will visit the class to read and discuss their work. Students will attend lectures and readings by the visiting writers, meet in small discussion sections, and work on several writing projects.

Selected works by writers who will visit the course.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Short exercises in fiction or nonfiction writing and a final project.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Writers speak on Wednesday evenings at 8:00PM.
Attendance at every talk and class meeting is required.
The course is open to students in all classes and majors. A note to prospective thesis writers in English: although the course is numbered in the 160's, students may not use their grade in this course in their application to write a creative thesis.
