The English Essay
ENGL 130 SP

This course will focus on the writing of nonfiction and the forms of the English essay. Readings will be drawn from a range of genres, both nonfiction and fiction, including memoirs and profiles, historical and contemporary commentary, short stories and novels.

MAJOR READINGS

Zinsser: ON WRITING WELL;
Kingston: THE WOMAN WARRIOR;
Cisneros: THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET;
Ishiguro: THE REMAINS OF THE DAY;

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Writing assignments weekly.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

To apply for admission, complete the application form available at 279 Court St., Room 102, or Butterfield B310. Deadline to apply: Monday, January 19. This course gives preference to students whose primary fluency is in languages other than English or who are fluent in more than one language.
