Sedimentology and Stratigraphy
E&ES 205 FA

This course introduces students to principles of sedimentology and stratigraphy. Students will learn to identify and classify sediment and sedimentary rocks, sedimentary structures, and sediment textures. The course will cover sediment processes, facies analysis, and depositional environments. Students will be introduced to seismic stratigraphy, sequence stratigraphy, and basin analysis. Laboratory exercises will emphasize topics introduced in lecture. A hands-on approach will be encouraged in this course. Samples, thin sections, and field trips will be used to illustrate the fundamentals of sedimentology and stratigraphy.

Roy Lemon, PRINCIPLES OF STRATIGRAPHY
This text will be supplemented by various additional readings from the primary literature.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three examinations, each of 1 hour duration and covering 1/3 of the course, will be weighted equally.
