Economic Approach to Law
ECON 325 FA

This course uses economic analysis to develop a unified theory of the basic common law areas of torts, contracts, and property. It also examines the cost of using the legal system to resolve private disputes. The analysis is both positive (explaining the actual structure of the law) and normative (proposing reforms that would make the law more efficient).

MAJOR READINGS

A text will be available in electronic form. In addition, several readings will be put on reserve.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

A mid-term and final exam; several short written assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students may not take ECON325 and ECON225 concurrently.
