In this course, the students will use the basic principles of economics to analyze the operation and development of the Asian economies, with a particular attention to East Asia. The course will explore such questions as: What factors make their performances diverge among themselves? How are they interacting with the rest of the world? What factors were underlying the "East Asian Miracle"? What triggered the Asian financial crisis? What were national and international responses? What values shape the behavior of their individual and organizational agents? What are the problems facing them today and for the future?
