Globalization: Causes, Consequences, and Governance
ECON 268 SP

This one-semester course will start by examining the causes and consequences of globalization¾the process of increasing international movements of products and productive factors¾in history and today. On this basis, the course will discuss what international rules are governing the process of globalization and will explore the key issues that the world must address to improve the rules to make globalization more efficient, equitable, and properly paced and sequenced. While focusing on globalization's economic dimensions, the course will draw on selected writing in other social science fields.

MAJOR READINGS

Book chapters and papers will be used. Some of the authors will include O'Rourke, Williamson, Nye, Donahue, Maritain, Rawls, and Steglitz. These readings will be supplemented by official publications of international organizations.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Papers and exams will be required.
