Urban and Regional Economics
ECON 216 SP

This course uses economic methods and perspectives to analyze urban issues. The necessary analytical tools are developed to study location decisions and agglomeration effects. Topics covered include why cities arise and develop and what factors affect their growth and decline. Emphasis is placed upon discussion of various policies, including development of transportation systems, housing regulations, local public finance, antipoverty programs, and regional development proposals.

Textbook: Arthur Sullivan, URBAN ECONIMICS, 4th edition, Boston, Mass: Irwin McGraw-Hill, 2000.
Journal articles to be chosen.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One mid term, final exam, final paper.
