Sophomore Colloquium
EAST 201 SP
This team-taught seminar, required of all East Asian Studies majors, aims to introduce prospective majors to a range of the fields and methodologies that comprise East Asian Studies at Wesleyan. The material will be
organized
into several disciplinary and area modules, each contributing to a central theme.
MAJOR READINGS

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One short essay will be assigned per module. Each essay will be critiqued by fellow students, and then re-written. There will also be a longer final essay that will encourage students to draw connections among the
modules.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
For Spring 2004, the theme is: East Asia as Discourse.
This course is primarily designed for sophomores who are seriously considering a major in East Asian Studies, and also open to junior and senior East Asian
Studies majors who were unable to
take the course their sophomore year.
