This course provides a broad perspective on ethnographic film, a special category of nonfiction film. It approaches film as a mode of constructing "reality." Concentrating on observational cinema and other types of
ethnographic
nonfiction, we will discuss the history and variety of these genres. We will explore the events and structures of everyday life, seeking the similarities and differences among societies through a comparison of cultural
