Junior Colloquium: Culture and Violence in the Progressive Era

An interdisciplinary study of politics and literature in the Progressive Era, centering on concepts of power, violence, race and class.

MAJOR READINGS

Novels by Norris, London, Wister, Burroughs, Chesnutt
Historical and political writings by Roosevelt, Sumner, F.J. Turner, Gilman, and others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Midterm paper; final paper.
