Politics of Urban Development
AFAM 205 FA

This course will analyze how the political and economic systems in urban areas interact to produce what many have referred to as "the urban crisis." We will examine the structures of metropolitan governance, the politics of redistribution, grassroots politics in urban and suburban communities, and the feasibility of integration, all with an emphasis on how the politics of race and class shape/define the terms of each debate.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

There will be an inclass midterm examination and a final paper (10-15 pp). In addition, there will be two response papers (to readings).
