This course examines the comparisons and contrasts of men and women in sport. Concentration is directed to historical, philosophical, psychosocial, and biophysical aspects in a variety of sport environments. Topics include intercollegiate athletics, Olympic competition, youth sports, professional sports, global issues of a gender related nature, gender-equity issues, effects of the Title IX Education Amendment on American sports, violence in sports, homophobia in sports, cross-gender coaching, eating disorders and athletes, etc.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
