Modern Brazilian Theatre Dramaturgy & Performance: Nelson Rodrigues

"THEA-315: Modern Brazilian Theatre Dramaturgy and Performance: Nelson Rodrigues" will focus on the work of this Portuguese-speaking playwright, whose plays are representative of Brazil's urban culture and instrumental
in the formation of Brazilian
theatre's avant-garde. Rodrigues' dramatic ouvre-commonly divided in Carioca tragedies, mythic and psychological plays-will be explored in this course from both dramaturgical and performance standpoints. Thus, as the
course progresses students will merg
e theory and practice, departing from the current knowledge of Rodrigues' theatre to their own interpretative concept of this author's work.

Due to the practical and research natures of this course, outside laboratory time will be required (especially towards the end of the school semester).
