Seminar in Sociology
SOC 324 SP

This seminar offers seniors in the major an occasion to draw together their studies in sociology. After a review of basic ideas, traditions, and problems in the field, attention will be given to the use of the sociological imagination in sociological thinking and research. Students will write their senior research essays in this course.

MAJOR READINGS

Charles Lemert, SOCIAL THINGS; and selected readings on the history of social thought and method; readings determined and required by the student's own research topic.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Reading, attendance, short papers, group work, a final 20-30 page research paper.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

The course is open only to majors in sociology. Preregistered students not at the first class meeting will be dropped.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
